DERBY County were frustrated not to take all three points against Nottingham Forest today after a controversial finish to the Championship clash at Pride Park Stadium.
And controversial referee Stuart Attwell once again stole the limelight in a pulsating East Midlands derby which finished 1-1.
Attwell, who awarded Reading’s ’goal that never was’ in their clash with Watford at Vicarage Road in September, was at the centre of a furore this afternoon as he disallowed Miles Addison’s potential winner for Derby for an alleged push.
Just moments earlier, Attwell had awarded a disputed penalty – which the Rams’ Nacer Barazite then missed – despite Addison heading the ball into the net after substitute Luke Chambers handballed.
Argentinian striker Emanuel Villa had given Nottingham Forest the lead when he scored an own goal in the 54th minute after Rams keeper Stephen Bywater parried a shot onto the back of the forward before it rebounded into the net.
But Villa made amends in the 65th minute when he latched on to Barazite’s knockdown to equalise before Forest were reduced to 10 men when Lewis McGugan was sent off 16 minutes before the end for a foul on Paul Green.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm in a scrappy, goalless first half.
