Report

TWO goals in the final 10 minutes saw Derby County chalk up their first away win in the League since March 2007 this afternoon and shatter Queen’s Park Rangers 100 per cent home record.

Martin Albrechtsen and substitute Emanuel Villa scored to give the Rams a fine 2-0 victory at Loftus Road.

Rangers went into the game on a high after dumping Aston Villa out of the Carling up in midweek and twice hit the woodwork.

But Derby were always in the game and deservedly stretched their unbeaten run to four matches with a second victory of the season.

“I think we are getting better,” said manager Paul Jewell.

"Getting the win against Sheffield United gave us a bit of impetus and we scrapped two draws against Swansea and Cardiff, but I thought we dominated the game against QPR from start to finish.

“Okay, they had the best chance of the first half and they hit the post in the second half, but other than that I thought we were terrific.”

There was a let off for the Rams mid-way through the first half.

Emanuel Ledesma released Daniel Parejo down the right and his low cross reached Dexter Blackstock yards out from goal but Paul Connolly’s excellent piece of defending blocked the striker for long enough to allow Roy Carroll to dive on the ball close to the line.

Not too much was seen of the home side as an attacking threat in the opening 45 minutes while Derby played some decent football and won five corners without seriously stretching Radek Cerny.

His one save of note in the first half came when he dived and pushed out a cross-shot from Stephen Pearson as Rob Hulse closed in.

Rangers upped the tempo at the start of the second half and went close to taking the lead on 48 minutes.

Paul Connolly deflected Ledesma’s shot against a post and the ball bobbled behind for a corner from which the Argentinian sent a volley screaming over.

Hulse wasted a good chance to put the Rams ahead when he latched onto a flick from Nathan Ellington but he wanted far too much time in the area and allowed Damion Stewart to make the tackle.

The striker’s dithering almost proved costly when Rangers swept downfield and Dexter Blackstock, who had a loan spell at Pride Park under Phil Brown, smashed a shot against Carroll’s right-hand post.

But the Rams finished strongly, and in some style.

Miles Addison’s half volley from 30 yards dipped late to clip the top of the bar before Albrechtsen put them one up on 80 minutes with his second goal in as many matches having struck in the draw against Cardiff.

Nacer Barazite’s corner found its way across the box to the Danish defender who took a touch before burying a low shot.

The second goal in the 89th minute also came from a corner, this time taken by substitute Steve Davies.

Villa met it with a good header from six yard to record his first of the season and celebrated in front of the travelling Rams fans.
